when in the UK you can withdraw five hundred pounds from a machine at a time (HSBC machines) I found others allowed you batches of two hundred pounds. but just reuse the machine after the transaction.
If you withdraw say five hundred pounds to your debit card you will lose a good twenty pounds in the exchange rate (approx $38) this happens everytime you use an ATM!! (if withdrawing five hundred pounds)
