If by PHP redirect you are talking about the “Location” redirect, that is essentially the same as this only works in the headers – and there’s no telling what Google will do about that LOL.
I would prefer to see some other method for that. I understand exactly what you’re saying, even thought about something like that, but to tell you the truth there are some inherent risks in that besides the search engines – for example, being redirected to a different language page.
It’s not as easy as it looks, unfortunately. It might be better to have some sort of a landing page asking the visitor to choose which page he/she wants to visit in order to get the most relevant information.
