‘It must be linked from somewhere since it came up for a search.
You said the material wasn’t copied. It is, at least as far as an editor would be concerned checking it out’

Yes you’re completely correct. It used to be linked to from the main omegafx.com index page. But that was modified in its entirety several months ago. Maybe someone else is linking to it too? I guess I’ll have to make a press release ordering everyone to quit linking to this page since it doesn’t please the dmoz gods.

‘And what does the statement about linking to corporate websites have to do with this?’

Apparently if I have shared content on a corporate website and a different website this is bad. I should therefore go out of my way not to have content on the corporate website that is representative of what my normal websites are about. I was unaware of this fact. I’ll make sure that in the future if I write an article that it’s only listed in one place. I guess you should also contact dmoz as thier directory is also available on google and this would constitute duplicate content. It’s odd dmoz doesn’t abide by it’s own rules.

Anyway I could really care less about my website being listed with Dmoz, I gave up a long time ago trying to get anything valuable listed. Hell I even submitted websites about some authors that I enjoy reading and those couldn’t even get listed, including official websites.

‘The point is DMOZ is fairly valuable, and a secondary point is they seek to list original content, not anything copied. Maybe dotaffiliate deserves a listing of its own in addition to omegafx, but that isn’t on the topic here. There are plenty of sites that deserve listings that don’t have one.’

You nailed it. Dmoz is not a comprehensive resource, it therefore should not claim to be.

Furthermore, no one uses Dmoz anymore. Ask a consumer if they use Dmoz the answer is no. The only search engine that relies on Dmoz is netscape.

Google uses dmoz for it’s directory results, but this directory is not used very frequently. It’s probably used as much as people use the actual yahoo directory.

I will be honest. I used to use dmoz, especially when it came to locating local websites. This was several years ago. I can no longer use the website since most of the links are outdated or broken.
