It works best with poker. I have met some very successful poker affs who go around local games and recruit in person.
I have gotten some players chatting up people in Vegas.
If you take such a personal approach, you will need to be personally available for the players with advice and tips.
Public advertising is of course prohibited in many countries. If it wasn’t, I wouldn’t mind having a few bill boards.
