Just go to their site and look.
Throwing out aged links to quality sites will certainly not help you. If you have lots of outgoing links, research and cull. Do the legwork!
I think there are some pretty cool sites that’ll do this for ya too.. WebCEO may be one of them, you plug in the url’s of your link partners, then it checks to see if you have a link, and what the anchor text is..
Might then go to the sites themselves and check for nofollow tags etc.
Then instead of immediately taking the links down from what could be really beneficial sites, you might send an email… “Hey we traded links, I have yours up.. but can’t find mine.. am I looking in the right place?” ..
Because though some may have taken them down to be jerks, others may have just edited the page, changed templates, or accidentally deleted an include, not remember why the hell the link was up there in the first place.. or whatever, and you might end up with some cool make up links out of the deal
