I’m glad we’re getting this warning out there. I guess I’m not surprised by the tone of the respones. From what I’ve read at some other sites, registerfly is only getting worse. I’ve read that one of the hardest things to do is to ‘move’ your domain to another registrar.

As for good registrars? Well, my experience with NameCheap has been quite pleasant so far. Their site appication seems to work perfectly, their affordable and they have whois protection. Hopefully that will continue.

While I’m at it, I would also like to warn people about a domain registration scam that has been getting worse. Basically, some people have had their desired domain name snatched out from under them before they can complete a transaction. It’s a simple scam, but the roots of it are devious and cloaked. I first found out about this from the forum at dnsstuff. They have a warning about it. So, be careful where you search for your names!

If you are interested in that thread, goto dnsstuff and look under their General forum for a post entitled:

WARNING: Somebody might be spying on WHOIS searches – mind blowing but true!!!
