Oh, I do accept some media buys – but flat rate, not CPA. I hate CPA for many reasons. Even when combined with a media buy.
Usually I accept media buys month by month, unless I build something special for them, then it’s more long term.
I am strict and selective in who I accept, and most of the time the flat rate goes until comissions would surpass the flat rate. Then we switch to commissions.
Kind of like a sales person who is on base pay until comissions kick in. It allows me to advertise some places I think have great potential but who haven’t proven themselves with me yet.
Of course such a deal involves a certain level of trust on both sides. Make sure you never accept deals like this when you are not sure you can fulfill your end of the deal. I have seen many people fall out of grace with the casinos because they could not hold up their end of the deal.
Better to stay on commission and wait until you are established enough to know you can deliver on your promises.
Increasingly lately I have seen posts that maintain that this business is not ethical.
I disagree.
If you are ever going to make it in this business, your business ethics better be impeccable, or you will have neither players to refer nor casinos to work for.
