My personal choice is always less “mess”. A tastefully placed banner here or there is ok, but too many make a sight seem confusing and uninviting to me. I also get the feeling that more banners = less creative content and I want to get the feeling that I am gaining some information rather than just having a barage of sales pitches hurled at me via a banner farm.
