I am for phoning and against.
Should there be a problem with an affiliates account then phoning is better and sometimes more responsive than email.
Also should an affiliate perform well then a call is justified as the porgram would like to express their thanks and see ways they can work more closely (one phone call can save several emails bouncing back and forth).
