Spam’s a real pain. I had a spam filter on my computer at work for about a year, and I started getting complaints from legitimate customers that they couldn’t get email through to me. So I opted out of the spam filters. Now over 60% of my email is spam of some sort.
But I’m kinda like the Professor. I look at it as market research. Chances are if someone’s spamming me, there’s a reasonable chance I can make a profit promoting a similar product on the web through an affiliate program somewhere.
There should be a spam zeitgeist somewhere, kinda like the Google zeitgeist.
On a related note, I went to college with a young man who’s nickname was “Junkster”. He collected junk mail from odd sources and got on all kinds of mailing lists. (This was before email.) Then he posted the interesting stuff on a bulletin board at the end of the hallway.
Wonder if there’s a market for a similar concept on the web…
Gotta go. Just had an idea!
