InactiveThis is just fear mongering, the bodog.com domain has not been in use. Calvin will never step foot in the US. No bank accounts were seized. This may scare off some players but it just seems like a complete waste of taxpayer money.
It’s business as usual for the company.

Agreed, that could very likely be happening… Better be careful.
Quite choking news I would say.

Keeping us safe from terrorists I presume.

chazMemberSo what’s everyone’s opinion on the charges? Do you think they are true, or another US Government move?

InactiveI think if you’re in the usa and you promote sports or poker you’re walking on thin ice.

Even if it’s brands that do not accept US traffic?

Only if the NFL or any USA sports are being bet on then there could be a problem.
The NFL seems pretty protective of their brand. I’d feel ok with European Football and other non-usa sports venues.Poker I don’t know to much about but there is the WSOP and Hollywood Poker. Seems someone wants to gain control of these segment.
I stick with the slots, hopefully no one cares about them.
But I’m paranoid by nature anyway so take what I say with a grain of salt.February 29, 2012 at 4:14 am #822022Anonymous
InactiveI think its a crying shame that the USA and its states can freely impose their will on the rest of the world, but thats really nothing new they’ve been doing it in nearly ever aspect of life for years and its only getting worse.
I’m pretty sure that the WTO has ruled against the US in several instances, but the US ignores those rulings. When is the rest of the world going to say enough is enough and put an end to it?

InactiveRight now I aint changing a thing, if things change, well, then I might have to but I decided during the last shake up (black Friday). I am not going to react to outside events, I am going to try to respond instead. I am going to wait and see and not rush to judgement and panic and change things arount. Respond, not React.

masonsdoitMemberLets not lose sight of the fact that this Indictment is based on Bodog’s sportsbetting activities. The one aspect of gambling – internet or landbased – that the law in the USA is very clear on is Sportsbetting. There are specific provisions for that type of gambling in many states and the basis of the federal Wire Act.
Having said that though, and after a thorough legal assessment of the situation it still looks like they are just trying to prove the size of their Wangs!

True enough!
Wasn’t his home / party raided a few years ago? Based on that and the recent megaupload raid, the US will likely soon have him in custody too. They are desperate for any money they can get their hands on – I wouldnt be surprised to see numerous more cases this spring/summer.

InactiveAgree totally – arkyt Nitesh bud405n
At this point, if you want to be safe you should promote only pure casino sites that do not accept US players.
But, if that was the state of the industry today, wouldn’t ‘they’ start going after US based sites that merely mention gambling.
With the power of the government they can do just about anything they want and thumb their noses at the rest of the world.I thought it would be getting better now that the idiot is out of the oval office.
Don’t ‘they’ have better things they should be doing??I have no real knowledge of the Bodog facts, the recent actions just seem to be wrong.

bosshoggsMemberLots of members have been PMing me/emailing asking what the impact will be with this indictment on US Regulation.
There’s several schools of thought… and I’m not too sure what to make of it yet. If anything, I just think things may be delayed a bit… and perhaps 2013 will be “the year.”
Just wanted to share an insightful article that sums up the details, expected aftermath and, yes, some thoughts around its impact: Bodog Founder Legal Online Gambling in US
