vladcizsolMemberI have had as many as 250 in my network in the past when SEO benefits made it worth that approach, effort and expense.
Most of us have scaled back to under 20 due to managament issues and problems with engines like Google and Yahoo modifying their algorythems and penalizing cross linked networks or even owners of too many doamins in a particular niche. Even if you use proxy domains in an attempt to get around this both Google and Yahoo are top level registrars and have access to the registrant data as required by law. Proxy domains are designed to cut down on solictations not spoof the search engines.
My suggestion is to build a few high quality sites with unique content and valid and useful information for readers (not spider food) and update them on a regular basis. Links are still important but be very careful about their source, avoid three way exchanges and build inbounds at an organiclly sensible rate. Dont add 300 in one month etc…
I would also recommend you read all the articles by our resident expert Bob Rains. He even answers questions as time permits. He is one of the best in the business by a very wide margin and thats why we added him as a resource for CAP members.

aaronsmithMemberI have two sites, I purchase domains thinking I will set up more but never get round to it. I only have the time for two but see some of you have loads and was asking because I was wondering about the SEO benefit of so many sites.

InactiveWe have about 80 domains spread between 2 companies.
Although what the Professor says makes sense – we have been lucky that we have not been penalized by the major search engines but this may be because we generally only do minimal link exchanges with any sites purely because we don’t have the time. We don’t cross link sites within our own network…or should I say – we don’t do this anymore. We used to in the past but have removed the cross linking over the years not because we were penalized or anything but just because most people said it was not a good idea to do it. We do occassionally cross link across different IP’s and different companies .i.e we may put a link from one of our websites on our german server to one of our websites on our South African or USA server. We prefer having numerous websites as most of them specialize in a specific field – eg we have http://www.marvelslots.netwhich is only marvel slot games and http://www.mobileonlineslots.com which is specifically for mobile slots. I won’t do anymore in case it looks like I am trying to do some free advertising
but suffice to say – this is one of the reasons we have so many different sites. We also have a team of web designers who get bored maintaining the same websites – so we keep them interested by giving them new websites to design.February 28, 2009 at 2:37 pm #796229Anonymous
Inactiveits not about size its about good targeted traffic. asking how many you got is like asking some one how many inches (there going to lie) not about what you got its how you use it. if any one is wondering its 12 lol
