No offense but imho the Guardian is not a credible source. Anyway its voter registration fraud not voter fraud. Plus I’m pretty sure it was a Democrat that ordered the raid in NV.
It’s more likely than not its just young people trying to pad their registration numbers to get paid. ACORN shouldn’t count bogus registrations towards their quota. But I would imagine ACORN is more disorganized than ruthlessly dishonest. But who knows as they aren’t independents.
I always take what the media says with a grain of salt. More importantly it’s what they don’t say that often reveals the truth. When the timeline doesn’t add up there is often more to it than meets the eye.
A perfect example is the bashing of Barney Frank and CRA when it turns out that our old friend Leach had his hand in whole banking deregulation mess.

My point is that if you are concerned about voter fraud then take care of THAT issue and not blame ACORN.
The folks on tv saying that they registered multiple times should be jailed not glorified.

CNN was great until they were bought by Viacom. They gradually morphed into a semi Fox in terms of content and propoganda. Not nearly as straight forward and blatant as Fox but more insidious in a way because they are a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
The third component of the Triangle of Evil is Clear Channel Communications which under the guise of “de-regulation” has gobbled up most of the radio stations in every major market. Thats why we end up with th 24 hours a day of right wing extremist and special interest brainwashing that’s going on. How come almost ALL radio commentators with the exception PBR are extreme right wing douche bags? Clear Channel.
It was true when independent Ross Perot coined the term and it’s even more true now. The Republicans have adopted a deplorable practice of charecter assasination, gunboat lies and dirty tricks that is without precedent. I have no idea how the extremists took over that party, but its high time the GOP cleaned house and went back to their founding beliefs. I think after this election they will have to do so. So if you think you are Republican send a message to your party that you are sick and tired of the shit throwing, propoganda, lies, pork barrel spending, and complete control by special interest groups. They have nearly bankrupted this country, enough is enough.

Fox is on some BS because all morning they talked about ACORN, then they said that ACORN was holding a news conference. They covered less than FIVE minutes of it so I don’t know what was said!

No reason to doubt the Guardian Report. it’s not up to deputy registrars (which is what acorn uses for their registration drive), to decide which applications to turn in and which to toss out, you have to turn them all in. It is the country/city/town clerk to determine their validity.
BTW if Acorn registrars are so horrible/criminal that these various clerks are “exposing” them to the media, why don’t they just revoke the deputy registrars that are doing this? I don’t seen any story about how these various Republican politicians are tossing out bad registrars and why not if it’s so outrageous.
I’ll believe the guardian’s explaination, since it actually makes sense and having been a deputy registrar, i know the deputy can’t refuse to register people, can’t dispose of “bad” registrations, etc.

Right? ACORN is in some respects a lobbying group like, say, the oil or pharmaceutical lobbies. Except they represent poor people instead of profitable corporations so they’re a much less successful lobbying group.
What do they do?
They started as a radical group dedicated to getting welfare recipients and underemployed non-welfare recipients together to demand socialist things like free lunches for kids and emergency room care. Now they lobby Democrats for terrorist things like raising the minimum wage and forcing the government to subsidize affordable housing. Also they organize voter registration drives.
But what about all these crimes they’re committing??
ACORN pays local losers in Florida $8 an hour to gather 20 voter registrations a day. So some of these losers are lazy, like all employees, and just make up the registrations. ACORN does try to find these made-up registrations and fire the employees who submit them, but, you know, sometimes they miss a couple. Also the law seems to say that ACORN has to submit all the registrations they gather no matter what, and even though the law is a little bit vague, they’re still trying to follow it.
Why do Republicans need to attack and delegitimize a damn voter registration drive??
Because a certain amount of passive voter suppression is built in to the Republican campaign strategy. If all the disenfranchised and disenchanted voters were organized and registered and informed, we’d probably be a crazy socialist 10-party country like Italy or something. The GOP engages in active voter suppression—voter ID laws and legal challenges—and the more passive kind built into the democratic process, like engendering cynicism about the democratic process.
Obviously convincing the guys who disagree with you to not vote is part of any party’s campaign strategy, but the GOP’s by necessity targets poor people and minorities, and the vast history of suppressing the votes of poor people and minorities is way grosser than any history of disenfranchising white protestants. To us! Maybe you have some totally oppressed landed gentry in your family tree so you may feel differently.
Quite honestly the very heart of the utter bullshitness of this anti-ACORN campaign can be found in one incredibly telling quote from a spokesman for the RNC: “Cairncross accused ACORN of engaging in a ‘systematic effort to undermine the election process’ through its voter-registration drives.” Do you see the problem with that statement?
And basically there is a CERTAIN CLASS of Republican voter that does not think that the poors, the Blacks, the homelesses, and so on honestly really deserve the same power to choose our rulers as a guy who’s worked his whole life to get where he is. The politics of resentment are the last, most powerful weapon the McCain campaign has left this cycle. The details of the charges don’t matter, actual proof of fraud doesn’t matter, any evidence whatsoever of voter fraud being a real problem with a measurable effect on elections certainly doesn’t matter, because the “fraud” is just that, you know, no-good hoodlum welfare recipients are being handed voter registration forms, and one type of person sees that as the point of democracy and the other type sees it as an utter perversion of democracy.

Well Republicans have been bitching about ACORN and voter fraud for years now, but McCain definitely didn’t used to be one of those Republicans. In 2006 McCain did give a keynote address, about immigration rights, at a rally co-sponsored by ACORN.

Sure. ACORN’s voter registration drives are to conservatives what Diebold voting machines are the liberals. The possibility of abuse is present and clear, but no one’s yet convincingly proved that any abuse has occurred.
OK so what’s up with everyone suddenly talking about ACORN?
As we said, nuttier conservatives have been on the ACORN-bashing bandwagon for years now. That it’s finally trickled up to Drudge and Fox means they’re scared they’re losing the election and they need to preemptively delegitimize Obama.

What we’re dealing with so far is minor voter registration fraud. The questionable registrations number in the double digits in most states, and most of them have been flagged and caught by either ACORN themselves or election officials. More importantly, the election can’t be stolen if it hasn’t happened yet, and voter registration fraud does not explain in any way a double digit lead for a candidate in national tracking polls. Like, wtf, how are you making this argument, are you slow? ACORN registering Mickey Mouse is why Barack Obama is up 12 in Pennsylvania? Ok, sure, whatever you say.

Crime/Punishment
Republicans want to kill anyone who is convicted of serious/violent crime. They’d rather execute innocent people who may be wrongly convicted but had received due process, than let 1 guilty person live.Democrats would rather commute a death sentence or not allow capital punishment than risk that a single innocent person is executed.
Voting.
The Republicans spend lots of efforts trying to prevent democratic voters from voting over this horrific fraud they see everywhere. They are against early voting, absentee voting for anyone and anything resembling same day registration. Republicans go to court to prevent people who show up during legal voting hours from voting, if they can’t be accomodated before the scheduled “end of voting”. Republicans (and they’ve said it for years) say the right to vote doesn’t include having the practical ability to vote. So republican secratary of states, pull voting machines from democratic precincts, send them to republican areas just to hurt the democratic vote (Ohio in 2004)Democrats want anyone who has the right to vote to vote. They believe people who got in line before the end of the voting period should still get to vote. Democrats have been accused of having dead people vote and actively bringing fraudulent voters to vote in multiple spots.
Whichever side you think is worse, “Democratic fraud”are always trying to get more votes for their side, while “Republican Harassment” seems entirely focused on preventing their enemies from voting.

One of my lawyers here in Canada shared his pet peeve with me really early in our relationship: Man on the Street interviews.
i believe i’ve got the quote right here:

I was just saying to my wife, that i bet at least 1/3 of the supporters of each candidate probably would be against many of the policies their candidate has, if they actually new.
I certainly don’t like all of Obama’s ideas/proposals, but i know why i’m voting for him and against the republicans. Democrats would have to actually do every stupid thing Republicans try to attribute to them before i’d consider changing sides.
Here are the two worst ideas i’ve heard so far:McCain today – Lower Capital Gains tax to 7.5% from 15%, to “help encourage investment”. So, I pay 35% for each dollar i earn over 250,000 for my job, but i pay 15% on capital gains. Does the 7.5% drop really change my desire to earn every dollar i can as a Capital Gain? Isn’t my current strategy “Seek income via capital gains” already doing what this tax cut seeks to do? Once it’s lowered won’t i just cash out any gain i have left to take advantage?
Obama – Raise Capital Gains (possibly back to the same as earned income) from 15% to as much as 35%. This would cause everyone to cash out any gain before the taxes were raised. Raising the tax to “earned income” rates without indexing for inflation, would cause most investors to abandon growth stocks, in favor of dividend paying stocks, bonds or CDs, which would make raising money for new/risky ventures extremely tough. If i’m paying the same tax rate on captial gains for risky stocks as i would for a CD or bond. Raising from 15% to 20% might help raise revenues without rocking the boat too much, but people will still try to liquidate all gains prior to the tax increase.
So, there is what one man on the street thinks. Does anyone give a….. :roflmao:
