    For me it’s the PC.

Because they’re cheaper – more powerful – and mainstream and so have access to a much greater range of software.

But Apple has their place in the scheme – quality product – and easy to use.
Great for mom, pop, sis, and your grand parents to use.
Just to pricey for me – due to the company approach to controlling hardware.

Also Mac users seem to go over-the-top evangelistic about all things Apple and Steve Jobs – which puts me off. I just want cheap computing not to join a cult.

Our desiginers and graphics team uses Macs and the rest of us use PC. Both have their roles in todays business.

I use both. It is hard to switch from PC to Mac and have to relearn everything. I am slowly learning to use the Mac for more and more things

I tried a Mac, but have now gone back to PCs.

I might have just had a dud, but my 17 inch MacBook Pro was/is nothing but trouble and is now a glorified MP3 player. For a $AU 4000 machine I expected better. Mac service takes FOREVER to fix things too – if they can fix it. Often they’ll just replace stuff – especially iPods – which would have to be one of the most unreliable pieces of hardware ever created!

Macs look pretty tho, and for a lot of their users that’s all they are – vanityware.

I really tried to love my Mac, and some things are definitely great (like the airports) but to me it has been quicker, cheaper, easier & more reliable to stick with PCs. At least for business use anyway.

Thats crazy about the long waiting times for support. A good friend of mine got the “beast” 24″ Mac and hers had some problems too. She called support but got the run around and being that she paid 3Gs for it I was surprised they didn’t try harder. What she did was she went online and searched for Steve Jobs email (I know what a long shot) she got like 6 different addresses but emailed them all. A week later she got a response from Mr. Jobs assistant and he wanted to fix her problem personally. Because it was exams she couldn’t have no computer so they sent her a new one without her sending the busted 1 first. Once she switched all her files at her pace, she mailed the original back and all was well.
I was just impressed about the level of commitment to make sure she had what she paid for.
However that was after she got the run around from regular support.

I do agree about some people pushing apple like a cult. But then again all giant retailers do the same with PC. They just promote apples ipods cause they have a larger profit margin than the laptops. @ Best Buy for example their profit margin on apple laptops is around 1%.

    I use both

For design, video, photos or anything else creative I use a Mac. I also prefer to use the Mac for general web surfing, email and other regular things

For business and finance, I use PC.

Also, for casinos, it has to be PC too. I think the only 100% Mac Compatible casino software out there is Wagerworks, isn’t it?

I’m not sure about PCs being more powerful, it really depends what you use them for in the real world, rather than mega and giga numbers. One thing for sure, is that you can buy very cheap PCs and they are generally more upgradeable.

I’m using OSX on PC here :P

Mac hardware is way too expensive just for the designed housing and nothing really robust inside.

I would have to say the M word is blasphemy for me.

It is a myth that Macs cannot get viruses. They can. The only reason they don’t get them as often is because everything on a Mac has to be user approved. So if there is a prompt to install something that you have no idea what it is, and you say yes, you have just told your computer to install a virus. So I guess you could say you’d have to be a real idiot to get a virus on a Mac.

The main reason windows is so unreliable is because there are 2 development teams working on the program instead of one, like Mac. So if Microsoft got their shit together, we could have some amazing software.

All the info above is direct from someone who works for Apple.

I was also watching a docco on Mac vs PC. If you spend the same amount of money on a PC as you do on a Mac, for graphics etc… pump the PC to the max with the same amount of money, the PC performs faster every time.

I have a design background. I would choose to use a PC over a Mac any day. I find it most frustrating that the mouse on a Mac doesn’t have a right click button. It drives me mental.

They look nice, but for me, that’s all they are.. Like a pretty girl with no brains.

The other thing I hate about Macs is that it’s *almost* impossible to get ‘free’ software for Macs. And the software is damned expensive.

Psssst! Macs right click now…. Have done for the last few years.

And there is plenty of free software as well, the only software I have purchased that wasn’t preloaded was CS2, which was only because it was for work purposes.

I have had my MacBook Pro for just about 2 years and it really has been brilliant, looking forward to upgrading to a new one next month.

    Heheheh
Ill have to get my garlic and holy water out on you Shane! LOL

Each to their own. I can understand the POV of Mac lovers… I just can’t become one myself. No matter how hard I try. And believe me I have..

I actually applied for a job before I started with Rewards Affiliates, and the guys interviewing me saw my portfolio and wanted me to show them in ‘real time’ (nerd) what I could do…

As soon as they sat me down at a Mac I got up and walked out. I didn’t want the job that much.

I think it took me a week to get used to where everything was, but once I got my head round the basics, i was sold. The main difference for me is the workflow, there are a lot of things about Mac that are intuitive, and that really help you get everything done.

I was once the only PC user in a Mac office that bagged Macs at every chance, but then when I moved to a new office if Im honest I would say I jumped on board for the cool factor, but now 2 years in I dont think I could go back to PC, its just too awkward.

I have my money invested in apple but use PCs. Like gooner, i can’t bear the idea of paying 2 to 3 times as much for the opportunity to start fresh again, finding new tools, etc.

I found the comment regarding the ipod strange. I’ve dropped my on concrete at least 3 to 5 times, it’s over 2 years old and works fine. The wife dropped hers in the toilet, pryed it apart with a screw drive ( i thought she ran it over with a car), dried it out and has been using it for about 10 months since.

In 1997 i predicted apple would be out of business by 2000, by 2005, i bought stock and at the rate their going, they’ll have a 10% + market share in the next year or so. back in 1997 there were around 1.8%.

I bought my ex an ipod 30gig photo for his 30th which was right when the photo came out (so was around $500). About a month or 2 after he got it, dropped it INSIDE THE CAR and the screen cracked so bad that you couldn’t see a thing on it… When he took it back with the warranty card, Apple told him that they couldn’t just replace the LCD, they would have to replace the whole ipod and that, on warranty, it would cost him more than what I had originally paid for the ipod. WTF?!
So I bought him another ipod for christmas the following year (30gig video – another $500) and he now uses the other as a hard drive. I also got him a hard case so the new one wouldn’t break.
I love my ipod, but the fact that they make them so you have to replace the whole thing just smells like money to me.. I suppose that has nothing to do with a Mac, but it will definitely be something that stops me from buying an iPhone.
    Grrrr!

I have been thinking about getting all kinds of apples. Their little book entices me, the iphone still entices me. I love my ipod and it has taken all kinds of punishment.

As far as apple computers go – I am a technophobe at the core and only got into computing because I like what the internet has to offer. I am pretty sure I won’t learn to like a new system for a long time.

I do respect though that they have taken a different route and withstood the competition all this time, I do have some apple stock.

I used a PC for several years and had a number of virus and software problems. I bought a Mac about 2 years ago and haven’t had any issues during that time period. (knock on wood).

The learning curve for getting used to a Mac after using a PC is virtually nothing. The way these things are set up, it’s a piece of cake.

I’ve converted to Mac for life, or until PC becomes the new Mac. :)
