If you don’t want to ruin someones life, then you’re doing the wrong thing IMO. I don’t care what anyone says, this whole industry is based on people becoming addicted.

I’ve been on all sides – as an addicted player, as an affiliate and as an operator – and I’ve seen it all.

Let’s face it, noone here would be making any money if people only played for “entertainment”.

worldpeace, thanks for sharing and raising what is an important issue. Addiction is an important issue facing this industry, and we as webmasters should be worried about where that leads our businesses. That said, it is difficult to know any of the people we refer to another site, and their playing habits, but there are some things we can do that may help a bit. One thing I notice on a lot of casino sites that I rarely see on a portal site is a link to Gamblers Anonymous. I think it might lend more credibility to our sites if we at least had the GA logo and a link to their site, making it more visible so that someone may actually seek help if they desired. I also wonder how many of our sites have been registered with parental control software (ie: NetNanny, ICRA, or others), which would keep some underage gamblers from being able to view our sites. These may be small things, but important for being responsible members of the gambling community.

Obviously some percentage of players become addicted.

The percentage, however, is significantly lower than those who become addicted to alcohol.

    Or nicotine.

Or any of the drugs I fooled around with in my Hippie days in the 70s.

Or chocolate, or coffee, or whatever all people get addicted to.

Gambling addiction is a very tiny portion of addictions, and the good news is that it is completely curable and there are many many places that will cure you for free.

Responsible casinos have a link to gamblers anonymous, and it would be advisable for us to do so too.

Feeling guilty would be a result of feeling like I was responsible for a gambling addict’s choices and/or addiction. I’m responsible for neither.

Since I’m not to blame for anyone’s choices but my own, I have no reason to feel guilty.

I do not feel guilty. Everyone is responsible for their own decisions. If someone is going to lose their life savings I hope they do it under my trackers. I will not feel sorry for him/her.

    Hey Everyone,
I do not feel guilty either. I am addicted to sex, nicotine, beer, jetsking, good food, outddoors, and did I say hot sex. It’s no bodies fault but the Captains. I think I will go have sex, drink a few beers, and smoke a pack. I just can’t help myself. :laughcry:

I find that very egoistical and sad. In case you didn’t know, addicted gamblers hurt more people than just themselves. They have families and friends often deeply affected by it.

Being an affiliate anyway and justifying it through other reasons I understand, but saying you don’t feel guilty and don’t feel sorry for them is just despicable.

LOL, that IS the life I want to live (and try to live). :D

BTW, I don’t feel guilty, but I think a GA link wouldn’t hurt. Sometimes people just don’t know where to turn with their addictions, and on the other hand I think everyone is responsible for his acts but sometimes you are too weak to stop and need a helping hand.

You have no heart, to say that is despicable – lets hope you or a family member of yours never has an addiction because then you might view things differently.

I find JackTen’s and cyclone’s comments very hypocritical. If you REALLY felt guilty, you wouldn’t be trying to pimp casinos to make a living. When you look at your stats and see someone dropped $1,000 in a day, do you feel guilty? No chance… you feel happy that you’ll be getting a nice cheque at the end of the month.

    Give me a break!

I don’t really feel ‘guilty’, but then again, I am looking at it as a business… I cannot put a face to the player, so there is no chance that I could know if a player is hurting their own livelihood by gambling.

I can say that I WOULD feel guilty if I had more knowledge… Right now I assume each whale has a whale of a bank account :) And as such, they might as well give me a little, right?

    Cyclone and Jackten,

Are you guys kidding me? I am guessing you justify being a casino affiliate by assuming your players are rich and money means nothing to them, lol. If you really believe in what you are saying, you would never be a part of this forum or industry.

I didn’t say i felt guilty or not what i said was acesup comments were out of order in my opinion. Of cause i’m happy at the end of each month, ive worked long and hard to get where i am now but i think everyone should display at least a GA Banner.

I do it because it’s something I know how to do, and they will play anyway. It has nothing to do with believing that they’re rich. It also has NOTHING to do with saying “I don’t feel guilty and I don’t feel sorry for him/her”.

An analogy would be my friend who’s a card dealer. He hates the fact that there are “zombies”, those people that are addicted and ruin their life at the casino, but they would be there whether he was or not. Plus, he isn’t saying “I don’t feel sorry for them”.

I seriously hope you see the difference.
