if you play 5 card stud at high stakes ( limit stakes games) and ONLY stay in if you are dealt an ace king; or better: and you bet aggressively especially in the beginning; being certain to never play any other hands: you will likely show a profit at the end of the day.

High stakes being $5/$10 or higher

I play poker stars all the time and have won some big tournaments from time to time. Most of the players that play online suck and tend to “chase” hands. I have been playing for 20 years but online for a few. Pick up the book “super system” by doyle brunson, it is known as the poker bible. I feel the game is 70% skill 30% luck after you get a feel for the players at your table you will gain a big advantage.

It’s easy to play at Party Poker and select Play Money Texas Hold’em.

Just remember if you play real money It’s alway some “stupid ” newbie that never folds so you better have a strong hand to the last card if you go all in.

I’ve been playing poker 1/2 my life. I’ve played and placed in many WSOP and WPO events and made a living playing poker for over a year (that was my only means of income that year, it paid for my mortgage, all my bills and bought me a car)

I can tell you it takes years of practice, you SHOULD NOT jump into high limit games, you’ll never make it, I don’t care how lucky you can get. In the long run you’ll get killed. You need to start off in the lower limits 1/2 etc. and learn the game, learn position, pot odds and what starting hands to play.

Super System is a great book like Ernie says. Also there’s some good Sklansky hold’em books for beginners.

you SHOULD NOT jump into high limit

I agree. But the question asked was

What are some of the easiest poker games you can make a quick buck from?

    so I answered in truth.

But for my suggestion to work it has to be in a game where the stakes are high enough that there seldom will be someone stupid enough to chase.

Sorry Steve, I didn’t mean to come across like your answer was wrong. I just wanted to make it clear that in my opinion, there’s no easy way to make a buck in poker. It takes knowledge and practice, no way around it. And there’s still idiots in the higher staked games, it thins out a bit, but they’re everywhere.

In the 20/40 game in Tunica, Miss. I used to play in, on weekends there was always 4-5 complete morons. LOL They were rich and just loved to gamble, which happens online as well.

Good point, Ellen. Playing poker is not an easy way to get rich.

    LOL no worries Ellen,

your advice is absolutely correct btw.

    and its what I should have opted to say in the first place after reading how truly green behind the ears this one is;

but its also why I chose 5 card for an answer

its not easily misplayed as long as you don’t chase and as long as you don’t play small stakes, by that I mean $3/$6 or less,

you won’t run onto a huge amount of chasers. In fact, it doesn’t take long for even the worst of chasers to curb that habit at the $5/$10 and up tables (for all but the stupidest anyway) because can speak from experience: those people will eat you alive. :)

I think 5 card is the best thing to play if you’re having trouble with discipline because no other poker game I can think of will teach one quicker not to chase hands.

its almost like being pregnant, you either are chasing, or you aren’t; but that’s hard to remember sitting on a king – ten with only 3 other players at the table.

but I guarntee you’d have been sorry too many times at the end of the day to ever make it profitable.

LOL and I can hear a bunch of you thinking right now how “that’s not too bad a hand.” or “well what’s everybody else got showing?”

    am I right? :)

I really agree that I’m not going to play high stakes. I’m just a rookie barely starting! I was just looking to make oh.. maybe $1-$2K profit per month if possible. I’ll check out the books you guys recommended.

    gotcha Steve :D
I’m not much of a draw player although I do know the game well. I prefer hold’em by far.

I was just looking to make oh.. maybe $1-$2K profit per month if possible.

That’s a nice chunk in the game of poker. What most people don’t understand is even the best players around will have bad days, weeks or even months. You won’t make over $1000 a month playing anything under $3/$6 or $2/$4 at worst (which isn’t small stakes), unless you’re going to play several hours a day and you have a bankroll to sustain the losses.

Yes you can sit in a $1/$2 game and win $200 but that’s not the norm. It won’t happen often at all. A nice $1/$2 win is less than $100 and you need to discipline yourself when to quit.

that’s the truth. Where were you $10,000,000,000,000 ago?

    :)

I’m not much of a draw player

just to clarify, I was talking about 5 card stud and not 5 card draw poker.

if you were to sit in and watch a game of 5 card stud at stakes higher than $2/$4 you’d likely see where players start out the high card showing will bet and it keeps up that way thru the hand with whoever has the high hand showing at the time; betting their ass off trying to run off the competition.

the ante is very low and with that in mind; if you only play the hands that are dealt to you on the first round; being two cards, one up and one down: if you only choose to stay in when you have been dealt a pair; (or ace king is good also, but its a slippery slope from there)

You will likely see a profit at the end of the day.

$1000 to $2000 is ambitious; I think I’ve had one month where I cashed out about $2800, and many months it went the other way although not near to that extreme.
