Money-Back specialists Paddy Power have fallen victim of their own generosity in sensational style tonight and are facing a record €1.5million (£1.2million) refund on the Champions League Final.

The fun-loving’ Irish Bookie pledged to refund losing bets on the final if player of the year and Champions League top goal scorer Cristiano Ronaldo found the back of the net anytime over the 90 minutes. Powers didn’t have to wait too long with Ronaldo living up to his £100m price tag and finding the back of the Chelsea net in the 26th minute.

Paddy Power himself said: “Well done Ronaldo, another new record set this year; the maker of the biggest ever Money-Back refund! The only thing I’ll be making around here for the foreseeable future is the tea!”. Paddy Power currently has the “Wonder Boy” priced at 9-1 to be Top Goalscorer in their Euro 2008 Betting.

The betting markets included in the Paddy Power €1.5m Money-Back refund are win-draw-win, first/last/anytime goal scorer, correct score and half-time / full-time markets.

2008/2009 Champions League Betting; 6-1 Manchester United, 7-1 Chelsea, 15-2 Barcelona, 8 Real Madrid, 9 Inter Milan, 10 Arsenal, 11 Liverpool, 14 Bayern Munich, 18 Juventus, 18 Roma, 20 Villarreal, 20 Lyon, 28 Atletico Madrid

Do affiliates get nailed for this Fintan or is it just Paddys that take the hit?

    Hi Tom

You’ve raised a very good point and something that a lot of affiliates who don’t know Paddy Power might be confused by.

When we offer a money back special be it a €1.5 million refund like last night or smaller cheeky ones like http://www.paddypower.com/bet?action=showpage&page=specials_header%2Ehtml

They have absolutely NO NEGATIVE IMPACT on an affiliates earnings.

It also creates massive goodwill with our customers which means our customer retention is fantastic. This as Im sure you will agree is a good thing as it means they will be making money for a lot longer with us.

So just to calrify we don’t deduct any of these refunds from an affiliate.

Thanks for raising the point and asking for clarificiation.

    Cheers

    Fintan

If you bet on “Fittingly 50 years since Munich”, the money is already in your account :)

Well I’m gobsmacked at that news Fintan !!

I’d assumed that it was also applied to affiliate accounts – and even then I was still in favour of it – because I absolutely agree it gives a very specific point of difference for the PaddyPower brand.

So hat’s off to Paddy Power for doing this and wearing the total cost themselves.
    :hattip:

Hey Fintan – question: does the affiliat eprogram support deep links? IE: can i link to that BB page with my aff id, or do i have to send them to the homepage and let them navigate through themselves?

    Cheers

    Hi Ian

Deeplinking works fine, I gave a quick example on our post about the WSOP of betting being open CLICKETY CLICK (last post on the thread)

If you want to set up a test link and do a test registration let me know and I will check it tracked through on the back-end for you.

    cheers

    Fintan
