I’m a big reader, and lately I’ve done nothing but read poker books, but I just barely got started on a new book called Whale Hunt in the Desert, which is all about a young casino host out in Las Vegas.
Also started A Widow for One Year a few weeks ago, and it got off to a good start, but havent’ had a chance to pick it up again since then.

It’s an interesting story about an incident in World War 1 when the Germans approached Mexico attempting to involve them in a war with the US, to keep the US busy on this side of the Atlantic.
The Brits learned of the communications through a broken German code, and the real challenge was finding a way to use the information without revealing that the code had been broken.

Nice to hear that you also like reading.
I only read Bios, and non fiction books of all topics.
I will read non fiction if it is seeded with at least
a basis of real life here on earth.
Lately I am reading anything I can get on the most
important thinker of the last century, Nikola Tesla.
Much to my surprise Tesla makes Einstein look like a flunky dim
witted retard. Read about Tesla and your conclusion will be the
same.
September 10, 2004 at 3:23 pm #654810vladcizsolMemberHey aleph I love Teslas studies and experiments centered around Mechanical Resonnance!
He was definately WAY ahead of his time.
September 10, 2004 at 3:27 pm #654811AnonymousInactiveI have a good friend who is a huge fan of Tesla too. In fact, his screen name is tesladavinci…
Definitely going to have to learn more about this guy.
September 10, 2004 at 3:43 pm #654813AnonymousInactiveAs you read about Tesla … compare him to anybody even Albert
Einstein and ask yourself one simple question …
What did Nikola Tesla DO for me and the world ?
Tesla actually IMPROVED life on planet Earth for everybody …
and he didn’t even come close to doing all that he wanted for
humanity … Tesla was talking and DEMONSTRATING the
coming wireless revolution before anyone even conceived of such
notions. Tesla liked to say that Einstein was all about theoretical
BS far removed from useful PRACTICAL solutions to man’s
foremost problems … I threw out all my Einstein posters in the
garbage.

Professor, Tesla was definitely ahead of his time … he electrifiedthe planet like he said he would when he was only a teenager
… some of his discoveries are only now starting to take off like he
prophetized would eventually happen … I may build a small
statue of him to prostate myself infront of 3 times a day.
September 10, 2004 at 4:30 pm #654816AnonymousGuestTesla is a very interesting character – he had a phobia about women’s pearl earings!
Rather sad passage about Tesla:
Quote:Tesla eventually died, literally pennyless, on January 7th, 1943. It is rather sad that a man who gave the world so much, received so little for his efforts. History books have been unkind as well. Even today, many texts still credit Marconi with the invention of radio, despite the Supreme Court decision which overruled the Marconi patent, awarding it to Tesla. In many parts of this country, people still refer to the electric utility as the ‘Edison Company’, even though they use the Tesla-Westinghouse alternating current system, NOT Edison’s direct current. At the Niagra Falls power generating station, a small statue of Tesla is purposely left unilluminated at night. It has been said that Tesla is the Forgotten Father of Technology. Tesla himself once commented “… The present is theirs. (skeptics of the day) The future, for which I really worked, is mine.” How true indeed. As for me, I’ll read just about any mystery/thriller I can get my hands on. I always have a book going.
Like many of us, I have a stack of great poker books that I peruse as needed. (Often!) I am hopelessly infatuated with Poker.
September 10, 2004 at 4:42 pm #654817AnonymousInactiveInteresting isn’t it that the man who changed our technological
world the most died penniless … which is I believe is more a
testament to his selflessness … yeah he did have quirks that
made him the quintessential mad genius …

Interesting how the educational system and the media
systematically keep us ignorant about Tesla … the more
you read about him it becomes evident why though …
Tesla predicted man would one day be able to control the
weather … he DEMONSTRATED the creation of Earth Quakes
at will with a small hand held gadget … dangerous information
in any time and place.
