Here’s a lil post by Debbie on CM of the Year on the subject..

    http://www.cmoftheyear.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2145

(It’s bingo for those of you that aren’t familair, pretty much where most bingo industry related folks go to look for jobs with online bingo sites)

a reply from someone on that thread..

October 10, 2006 – We got the inside scoop from Debbie Richardson, who was inside the Capitol and the halls of Congress today talking to various aides and staff members, all of whom expressed similar opinions.

The Port Security Bill will be signed on Friday. Although there is no such thing as a line item veto, the bill, supposedly, can have a separation from the other bill and be sent back to the Congress where it will be debated in lame duck sessions later this year.

It is still unclear whether or not language of the internet gambling portion of the bill has changed, or even if it is allowed to be changed. Staff members simply told Richardson that much lobbying was done on part of banks who claimed the law would cost them billions of dollars to be properly enforced.

The aides did make one thing clear to Richardson, the Internet Gambling Enforcement Act has many loopholes that are too big to be put into law, therefore, the bill has a high probability of being thrown back to Congress to be redefined at some point in the future.

They also made it clear to Richardson that a large scale protest held in early November (right before elections) would carry a good deal of weight in which way the law will go.

Richardson is in the process of planning the future peaceful demonstration.

    From: http://www.cnn.com/POLITICS/blogs/politicalticker/index.html

    President’s Schedule:

The President signs H.R. 4954, the SAFE Port Act, at 10 am ET in the Eisenhower Exec. Office Building. Attached to the port bill is the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. AP reports Bush “was not planning to mention the Internet gaming provision” at the signing ceremony.

At 12:05 pm ET, Bush attends a Republican National Committee Luncheon at the Evermay in Georgetown.

At 1:45 pm ET, Bush meets with the President’s Management Council on the President’s Management Agenda.

Bush departs DC en route Camp David at 3:15 pm ET.

I would say Debbie was guilty of the same wishful thinking as many of us. It’s human nature to hope that by REALLY wanting something and verbalizing it that we can cause it to occur. But it didnt work this time.

Yes Professor, agreed. Sorry for perpetuating this rumor, but it did make “the wire”, and gave us an outside ray of hope.

On another note, Bush doesn’t even have the guts to mention the Anti-Gambling Bill ? He doesn’t want to take away from the publicity of the Ports Deal, is that it ? Bullshit ! This puts icing on the cake in regards to how underhanded this bill was to make it to legislation, and now they are keeping it hush-hush, because maybe they realized that this law is going to piss off 30+ million US gaming players.

My only mission in life the next few weeks, is to vote these bastards out of office on November 7th.
