A webmasters can’t manipulate the data at all time, sooner or later other webmaster priorities are going to come up and the Alexa rank will fall. Seems like they Alexa would use the manipulations in their ranking algorithms. Right?
Alexa is, was, and always has been easily manipulable. I could bump up your rankings in Alexa by probably half a million rankings in 1-3 months. However, it wouldn’t result in you getting any more traffic. It would be a fraudulent signal sent by exploiting their terrible traffic tracking. There’s really no point.
Yes, I suppose if one assumes that no one is manipulating their results that using Alexa for general comparisons between sites is OK, but don’t much much faith in the information it gives you with regard to accuracy in the real world.
