Here in Spain the whole country is lottery mad. There are several different domestic lotteries run each week, a charity lottery that is incredibly popular plus we have access to Euromillions and a few other EU lotteries if we want.

Personally, I tend to stay with a smaller domestic lottery that runs twice weekly here (Primativa) with a regular jackpot of around €2m, although it does have a bigger rollover jackpot that grows until someone wins it. Right now I believe its almost €60m.

You can’t help but laugh at the greediness of the Spanish government that everyone knows is corrupt… there is no tax on domestic lottery wins, but of you win a foreign based lottery and you’re resident here (like many ex-pats), you pay 20% tax on your winnings! So there’s even less reason to buy the big EU lottery tickets, never mind the odds of winning are almost non-existent.
