I am not a believer in linking strategies. I picked a few sites that were good at the time I came into the market, linked to them and let the whole thing be.
I believe that google believes in age when it comes to linking, also. When a few (handful) good sites link to each other in their infancy, and 10 years later the linking hasn’t changed and they are all well established in their niche, google likes that.
Pure speculation, I admit, but it is what I have done. And it seems to have worked for me.
I don’t really think there is any shortcut that provides any permanence in ranking. Permanent ranking requires permanent work for years, work on making the site a comprehensive resource.
It’s only one business model, but I have always thought it is the best for the long term.
