I tend to think punters are not interested in dazzle but straight to the point information especially college folks. Also I would make sure your looking at your site via a mobile/ iPad as well to see how others will be seeing it this way since I know many are doing bets directly from mobiles these days. Again the simple site will not distract punters from seeing the information they want to make a fast bet.
