I don’t know these particular towns, but most are closed to vehicular traffic downtown and you can walk through the old towns – the architecture alone is smashing. Downtown is usually old town – new buildings have to go to the outskirts. So you should enjoy all the most authentic buildings, inns and so on.
Thanks Dom, downtown it is. I’ve been looking into walking tours. Where you can buy a map of things to see and do for a couple of euro’s. I’m thinking leisurely stroll, talking photos, being tourists, delis, eateries, no lines.. and low stress!
