I liked the article. The principles were based on common sense. It’s about time for someone to stand up and starting making sense when it comes to marketing in unregulated (or hostile) geographical regions such as the USA. When I started marketing online gaming websites back in 2005 I knew how the DOJ felt about online gambling niche (casino, poker, and sports betting). At the time, most US facing affiliates as well as operators were justifying staying in the USA market by claiming it wasn’t illegal. Maybe, technically it’s not, but it’s not what we think is legal, but what the DOJ does to the affiliates when it is all said and done. Unfortunately, “legality” is a second tier factor.
If you were a purely US facing affiliate and had not migrated your online business the last few years into other regions then your strategy was deficient. Not only were the signs “written” on the wall, but scorched over media and major news portals for years. Anything gambling related casino, poker, and sports betting in the USA will at one time shut down. When they do they will take your money, your affiliates, and the life time commissions you’ve earned are instantly gone. It will happen to them all.
So, the current affiliate strategy for those who have been previously marketing tho the US should be to develop your content and your site for programs that do not allow USA players to play for real money. (guest, and free tokens are encouraged). Market these programs because you’ll know your long term goals of developing long term income for your players.
Drop ALL programs who are currently in the USA.. every single one of them. You know what’s going to happen sooner or later. Even bodog will stop taking players at some point (even though I like those guys, I still think it’s a matter of time).
