This sounds like the same thing Golden Arch Partners pulled a couple of years ago. They just closed without any notice, and never ended up giving notice either.
I totally agree with JaqiC, it does make the good affiliate programs stand out when this happens, especially good old trustworthy casino coins and main street affiliates
