I usually go for a few key meetings, to see old friends and hopefully make some new ones. Budapest was great this year!
I always seem to miss you mate.. Will you be heading to London?
Conferences are what you make of them. I’ve been to conferences with a serious hat on, with the sole aim of doing a series of deals and “behaving” myself. However, nowadays, and it may have something to do with how many I’ve actually been to, I take things far less seriously, hang out with the people I have met down the years at these things and meet many new friends. I actually did my biggest ever deal in a strip club in Prague (FACT) so it goes to show that having fun at conferences can actually be a sensible and profitable way forward. We work in one of the greatest entertainment industries after all. By all means don the suit and tie and nail some serious meeting time during the day, but unless you enjoy yourself, you’re missing out IMHO!
100% agree. I did a pretty good deal myself in that same club. You just never know where you might have the best business conversation and people are generally more open and less tense at the parties.
