Dunno what’s new about that, I’ve been doing that for years.
Sometimes it causes issues, optimizing for visitors and optimizing for SE are not always compatible.
I do think though that Google takes visitor behavior into account at some level.
One issue with this is that if visitors land, see immediately what they were looking for and click and leave, I see it as a positive but I think google would like to see visitors spend more time.
