Private registration just protects your information from spammers, if the government wants to know who owns a domain, they can get that information rather easily. There are plenty of affiliates in the US, probably more in the US than anywhere ore everywhere else. Many of them don’t bother to do private registration, some are completely out in the open. Bottom-line, if you are just getting into this business, you are highly unlikely to be targeted by the government.
