Pretty sick and twisted; similar but not ugly-racist in that uniquely American way was the story of a New Zealand girl once named Talula Does the Hula From Hawaii.

The judge in the divorce case was so perturbed by the silly name that, in the midst a divorce proceeding between the girl’s parents, he temporarily made her a ward of the state so that she could legally have her name changed.
