Well i’m not going to defend Acorn, but this great conspiracy you’re exposing is pretty straight forward, they hire people to register voters and pay them by the registration. This of course encourages their “staff” to submit registrations, not to actually register voters. How they manage to hire people and pay them to do this is a good question, but i’m sure their lawyers feel they have a loophole.
Tonite my friend told me this:
He was approached by someone, trying to register voters: “Who are you voting for!?”, my friend said “Obama”, had clipboard shoved in his face “Fill this out to support Obama”. My friend says “I’m already registered to vote already and you can’t ask people who they’re voting for as a registrar, it’s against the law”. The guy says “oh, yeah, sorry” and continued on his way. Maybe an Acorn guy maybe a different group.
Back in the 1980’s i became a registrar as part of a U of Mich. student government project. I wanted to help make sure democrats were able to register (i politely registered republicans and reminded them to remember to vote too). We were told by the city clerk that we couldn’t register people at political events, which i didn’t. I registered people at dorm cafeteria, or went at the request of city clerk to home of disabled/elderly couple who wished to register. Just the reason clerks setup deputy registrars. The College Republicans on the other hand held a rally to register all those who came out to support republican cause, totally illegal.
My point is that people from many sides, with a number of agendas mess around with voter registrations and harrassment at polling places. So finding out that Acorn is a questionable group due to their agenda, tactics and abilities, is good to know, but it’s meaningless with respect to the election. Just like the list of all the “terrorist” groups supporting Obama, I can make a list of every Nazi/Klanman who’s name i can find and am pretty sure they’re all McCain supporters. I can add the various “militia members”, etc. and get just as offensive of a list.
In this case the crap is acorn and it lands on the liberal side of the balance sheet. Tomorrows crap will land on the other side, and so on…
