1. nobody knows whether google understands buying links in certain case or not. if there are just links – maybe.
2. in general the more you’r in the top of the page – the better. But I wouldn’t buy top position for sure. :sarcasm:
I’ve been doing a fair bit of research into link directories over the last couple of days, and I seem to have run into a couple of grey areas regarding how they work. I could do with some advice from someone a bit more experienced than me:
1. Google must know that certain URLs are selling links (usually in an auction style). Now Google’s not keen on people selling links, so does that mean all sites listed on those directories get punished? Or does Google consider it ok to purchase link in some cases?
2. As mentioned, a lot of directories work on a bid basis. But from an SEO point of view, is there really a whole lot of difference whether your site is listed at the top of a PR4 page or the bottom of one? Why pay $250 to be in the top two spots, when you can be on the same page 10 or 15 places further down for £30?
