I didn’t advocate the position or policy, i just stated my analysis. You wonder why Bush was elected/relected and still doesn’t care about public opinion.. Well that’s why it all worked for him.

My point:
People who like to pretend the US government is a separate entity from the american people, because “American’s are so nice” are pretty naive. George W had 70+% support when he started the war in iraq, including all those “Nice Americans”.

US public opinion shifts, then people who a year ago were calling you a traitor for voting for John Kerry are suddenly claiming “I didn’t vote for bush”.

You’ve got it right, the sun is setting on the US period of super/unitary power, akin to the UK following WWII. Frankly my concern is that the US will descend into a world somewhere between real life UK in the late 60’s/early 70’s and A Clockwork Orange.
