Thanks Ixian! Yeah, the ISO coding system was neither from the Dutch or Germans.

Rand is the official unit of currency used as a legal tender in Republic of South Africa. The ISO 4217 currency code for the South African rand is ZAR and numeric code is 710. ZAR is an acronym for Zuid afrikaanse Rand, “Zuid Afrika” being a term used for the country’s name in the Dutch language.
