I was told it was not a good idea and not worth my time… however thats what I was told when I said to people I wanted to start a website.
I always said to myself and will say it with this subject as well… It only takes one player…. only one player to give you your roi (even though its free advertising) The key is to be an active member… dont make your whole agenda about selling your product. Tell your friends you have a page, look for them and add them as well 
That should keep you under the no fly zone so to speak lol
Its also really good to add yourself to celeb pages.. they usually accept you and it helps just like linking on a real site..
