I usually prefer relatively unknown brands. We have spent many years building up a reputation as being honest and trustworthy so a lot of our users take our word for it when we recommend a new site.
But on the other hand, if you boost an SEO based link farm then it is probably a good idea to choose brands that already have a solid reputation and a precense in your market.
