pffffft…another nail in the coffin!

i hate for donald rumsfeld to miss out, so here comes his charming story:

Donald Rumsfeld used to chair Gilead Sciences, who holds the patent on tamiflu
, before he became the head of defense. when he joined office he was asked to give up his stock in this company (estimates range from $8m-$39m in stock) since it conflicts with the interest of the government. when asked to choose between his business interests and his public calling, he simply refused. “epidemics are national security issues and therefore squarely within the portfolio of the defense secretary. yet despite this glaring conflict of interest, Rumsfield failed to sell of his Gilead stocks.”

apparently because of this conflict of interest, Rumsfeld had to leave the room when talk touched on the following topics: “flu treatment and purchase of drugs for it, aids, high-profile mergers and sales involving top defense contractors including GE, Honeywell, Northrop Grumman, Silicon Valley Graphics.”

during the time rumsfeld spent in office, “the pentagon purchased $58 million worth of Tamiflu, while the Department of health and human services announced that it would order up to $1 billion worth of the drug a few months later.”

also during this time Gilead’s stock rose by 807%….do the math.
