Well, it isn’t an online story…but if I hadn’t been introduced to gambling online then it probably wouldn’t have happened.
About 18 months ago my partner and myself went to Vegas for the first time…I know, I know about time! We were playing on some slots machines…taking advantage of the drinks as you do . Well, one of the hosts offering drinks asked for ID for us both. I was flattered – being 25 at the time, but my partner had just turned 21 so we didn’t really mind…we were actually celebrating his 21st and my 25th so expected that he might need ID. Well, anyway – we passed over our passports…nice and British – with ‘United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland’ written on the front, while we nattered on about cucumber sandwiches and croquet as us Brits do all the time, revealing our monsterous teeth in the process.
She checked the dates, and passed the passports back to us. As she did, she smiled, and said (looking rather pleased with herself): ‘Am I guessing right from your accents that your from France?’. I couldn’t help but splutter out half my drink, and responded with ‘No, I’m English’. She didn’t seem very impressed with our chuckles, but we couldn’t stop ourselves as we both thought I sounded exactly like Austin Powers (who used exactly the same line in Vegas when an American thought Austin was wearing a fancy dress costume).
I realise that drink makes these instances more amusing, but mistaking an English fellow for one of our cross channel rivals just isn’t something that happens everyday…especially not after the person has just been examining a British passport.
Anyway, I hope that didn’t bore anyone too much…and please no one suggest that I might have a dodgy accent :roflmao:
