I definitely go with the popular vote of light colours and clean layout!
Of course, there is always room for variants, but legibility is so very key as others have mentioned.
The most exciting thing for me is when I come across a new site that has a really clean, consistent, and well organized presence. These have GENERALLY been ones with lighter consistent colour combinations, but there are definitely exceptions. No one likes to look at a flashing neon rainbow theme with too much text.
Some of the more difficult ones with dark colour schemes have had dark writing like red and green times new roman on a black backgrounds…my poor poor eyes! :Cry: (and I’m not OLD! hahaha)
I think it’s important to balance out content with visuals. So if you have a ton of content, you can still make it visually manageable by keeping your colours/layout basic and clean…and vice versa.
