Hey guys
Someone asked me via PM after having a bad exp with Rochess if I still recommend him. Then suggested I update this thread so that no one is mislead.
I don’t recommend Rochess (i think it’s Rochess.net) in fact, I am quite sure i was paying more than I’d have paid for a dedicated server to host two sites on what looked like a hostgator spinoff. Either way it was seriously shared hosting.
I had no cpanel, and any help at any time cost me $25 per hour.
I also paid $20 per year to have a domain redirected – toldya I was new
.
When I bought new domains he put them in his name, when i said i wanted them in my name, there was a definite dragging of the feet over it, he didn’t want to put them back in my name. I’m sure theres a thread around here somewhere about that.
If you’re new, or building quite a few sites, or want the ability to, without extra cost I was recommending hostgator.
There will likely come a time when you will however outgrow hostgator, and real recently here they actually banned google, their firewall does it appearntly, they also banned me, and they banned my partner. So they’re big on security, just not real great at knowing who the bad guy is
We dropped out of google news for a full week when they banned Google, it took that long to figure out what the problem was.
The problem popped up in forums all over the place at the time I had it, so I think lots of Hostgator folks had the issue, at least all the folks on my server at hostgator.
Just as an aside, my robots.txt and sitemap showed unreadable in webmaster tools, that was the biggest red flag .. then we dropped out of news, still we spent some time actually convincing Hostgator they’d banned google, and even then they defended themselves due to recent DDoS attacks.
Now we’re going with I believe Server Beach within a week or two
So I still don’t have a great recommendation, but these are my current updated thoughts
