Annie Duke is not just a good poker player, but she is also a good speaker.
It was very interesting, the WTO came into the discussion throughout and is being taken seriously.
The DOJ rep admitted that gambling online in the US was NOT illegal. Only accepting money for it was illegal.
On the other hand she said “the DOJ operates under the belief” that all online gambling is illegal.
After that contradiction, she was confronted with the question about horse betting and she said it was illegal (not true). When asked if lotteries were illegal she said yes, and when asked about anyone being prosecuted for it she said she couldn’t think of a case but would look it up.
Yeah, right.
Then Goodlatte (should be selling coffee instead of sitting in congress ) tried to explain why fantasy sports was legal and admitted it was legal even for minors. He had never heard of a problem with it. Lol, it’s online betting!
I think the proponents of UIGEA looked like a bunch of fools.
Annie asked repeatedly how goodlatte could say that he gives the power to the states when UIGEA is federally enforced. No real answer to that either.
The DOJ is so far out of the ballcourt with what is and isn’t legal – lol – let’s see them prosecute the lotteries. Hilarious.
Another good point was that more people watch poker on TV than baseball. It’s a national past time a huge segment of US citizens engages in.
It was a long session and fascinating and I am at a loss to describe it all, maybe there will be transcripts available online.
It made me sit here and talk to my computer, lol!
