If accounts are ever changed, there is immediate proof of who is behind it.
If the email address is changed from yours to someone elses’, whose was it changed to? (the theif most likely)
If payment details were changed, who is now recieving the payments? (the thief most likely, or a middleman person that would then forward the money or a portion of the money to the theif)
In either case, the information exists to trace the thief.
