My little’un is 3 on st patricks day!!
Hi again all,
Ben sometimes you hear about the “terrible twos” but personally I found that (and three) to be one of the cutest ages. They finally have come full circle to getting their own personality and of course the words they can’t quite form correctly are some the cutest memories (i think) for any parent.
Thanks to this job I’ve had more time to spend with my son (and now my step-daughters) than any parent probably has the right to enjoy. But even that said .. looking back it wasn’t enough.
Its funny where life leads you sometimes. When I got divorced (son was 6 months old) my (now ex-wife) was going thru what I’m certain was post-mortem depression and I couldn’t do anything right. when she left ….. she left the boy with me and our deal had been at that time that I would work and she’d do all the diaper changing and feeding. I went from never having done any of that to doing it all …. and God bless my son … he was so patient. he’d cry for his 2 am feeding and I’d get up all fuzzy eyed and at first .. didn’t have the forsight to make bottles ahead of time. Once i picked him up ….he’d stop crying and be so very patient as I’d try to make the bottle ….. often missing the damn thing when trying to pour the formula in it ….. lol. And to both his credit …. and probably the reason he’s still around today …… he didn’t cry or carry on when I struggled ……. rather would look at me with those big blue eyes and seemed to be saying …. “come on dad, … you can do it”.
for ten years it was just me and him. now I’m surrounded by girls ….. 5 counting my GF/wife …. (not officially married) but I call her my wife.
and now I get to see things from the other side.
For those men who have daughters and wanted sons ….. I’m learning that the boys when they get older though I still have an excellent relationship with him ….. have better things to do most the time and the girls ….. I think will be around more times than not. (of course that may have a lot to do with Mom being here) .. but anyway .. I think its the girls that’ll be more prevalent in your old age than the boys ……. (Congrats Lou …. I know you have a bunch) …..
in any case
I envy you Ben. enjoy your time. It will pass oh so quickly.
thanks for the responses. Kids are a big thing to me and as such … the responses mean as much also.
