bb1webs I think you can be certain that you are one of the last people anyone would ever direct such words at.
We are all stupid at times – I know I am. It’s not a question of what you do or don’t know, but how one put’s oneself across and how they rely their thoughts and opinions to others.
I must admit I have found some conversations here a little surprising – people who are absolutely positively convinced of their correctness despite everyone telling them that they are not. I don’t understand that mindset – I am pretty opinionated myself, but if I am arguing a factual point and absolutely everyone disagrees with me, I would have to concede there was a decent chance I was wrong and investigate it further.
The trouble is that there are a lot of other people who read these threads and they don’t know what is correct, and we would be doing a disservice to the community if we allowed patently false statements to continue to be argued as truth. There have been two such examples in just the last two days.
At the end of the day, we all make our own reputations. If someone is polite, listens to others, and is reasonable when they debate then no-one would ever dream of calling them any names. But if they wish to position themselves as an expert they must be willing to accept debate on what they say, including the possibility someone will say that they are totally wrong. It may not be nice being told that you are wrong, but it’s surely something that any adult can take maturely. If they can’t, then fireworks will inevitably ensue.
Personally I don’t mind what anyone calls me, but if someone responds to me aggressively I am likely to respond in kind. I am sure everyone here is old and mature enough to be able to do the same.
