Crawlers (search engine spiders) do not always enter from the index page. At least not on my sites. Think of all the links out there on the web to your site… Also – have you ever noticed that the spiders do not always keep indexing once they have started? Well, on my sites, they seem to (from what logs say) come back another time and begin where they left off.
StatsCounter is 100% accurate from looking at my raw logs for comparison.
