online gambling is already ilegal in a lot of EU countries
Absolutely Untrue.
It’s not online gambling that is illegal. In Europe there is no distinction between online and offline gambling. On that point there is much difference from USA. The problem in Europe is that only government companies are exploring gambling. It’s not online or offline, it’s gambling. Gambling is not open for private exploration. Under free market rules, there is an exception, and is under that exception that european governments are trying to say thet private exploration of gambling is illegal.
But, given all promotion given to the games by european gvernements, Private companies are saying to EU Commission that under free rules they have the right to explore the market and that government monopolies don’t make sense. At this time EU is investigating the issue because in France there is a governement abuse because they promote gambling outside their borders.
And another important thing, although some countries are considering it illegal, in most cases it is not a crime punished with prison but rather with fines.
Betandwin is doing a great job. They’ve put a good pressure on EU commission.
I would also like to say that a law like what was approved in USA would never been approved in Europe. The reason is that EU operates under free market rules. If in Europe, it was allowed for a private company to operate a land based casino, they would never ban online versions. Any European court would taken down that law. Please understand that the question in Europe is that ALL the gambling market is operated by the Governement. There is no Vegas here.
