Yes, the only truly effective way to stop scrapers and spammers is to stop paying them for their efforts. At the same however, there is always someone else ready to take over their place when a site refuses to pay. If someone is looking for job security then finding and going after miscreants would be the field to get into.
My comment about listing my websites in my signature may have sounded paranoid. But, about 6 years ago someone did copy an entire website of mine. That was a long time before blogs and forums. I also understand that there is nothing you can do to totally prevent your site from inappropriate site scraping, especially when they are scraping from the search engines. I just prefer not to go out of my way and make myself an easier target. I will certainly take a look at tips to prevent this when you do post them.
Upon reflection I guess it actually is better to include your websites. I know I’ve gotten some good ideas and leads by looking at all of yours. :wink-wink
To know that the cpays games are probably fair makes me feel a little better about not removing the pages altogether.
Of course, if I was successful they could reduce my commission if I did not agree to get more aggressive – incredible and how odd! Sounds like the words of a desperate employee. But when there is desperation in an employee does it stem from over zealousness or from an organization with a loose ethical mindset? Either way it does not bode well for a successful long term relationship.
Also, GREAT – Excellent lists of blacklisted casinos WITH reasons why they listed. They are a lot more informative and organized than I remember – I can actually find what I’m looking for.
It really helps to understand what kind of stuff they are pulling. What was truly disturbing was the software with a built-in cheat switch! I can imagine them saying “Oh well, profits are down and I need a new boat, lets tighten the screws”.
Thanks to all!!!!
