I was fighting this too hard to even pause and check any codes.
My computer is clean as a whistle. I run no popup blockers on purpose, I want to be able to see immediately if there is something going on instead of dragging stuff around and sllowing down my system.
I run various spyware programs and virus scanners, one in the morning, one in the evening, so each type runs once every other day ( I have 4 and they bring in different results often).
I ran everything under the sun yesterday and I am clean.
I wish I knew more about stupid advertising methids. This was a simple popup spawner, when you first get jumped thereis a tiny window on the right bottom side of your screen. Usually I see that and reboot before it gets a foothold. have seen them a lot a few years back in placs where you can find song lyrics.
Anyway, next they are just a window. I usually have some 20 windows open I use more or less simultaneously, and when I click on the bunched up lot of windows in my toolbar I can see all the titles.
This one was titled xhttp://www.richardstillmanfoundation.org/ I kept trying to rightclick it and close it, and each time I did, it immediately started up again as tiny window in the corner and spawned popup hell.
Then, since “close” didn’t work I hit “move” and then it read “xhttp://www.richardstillmanfoundation.org/ Outlook Express”.
It could be that I was not on the exact page of that site I gave, because I have taken to navigating some of these things to see what blackhat stuff may be in there. This site was using my URL as part of t’s google description.
I am quite sure if you navigated around you would come across what I came across.
I am still mad today about it, it was pure hell. If I see Monaco Gold and Dice again today under any circumstances I will have a screaming fit.
