I had something like this happen, and the domain became available again in 1-2 weeks. I hesitated again. And it was taken again. 1-2 weeks later when it became available again, I bought it.
There was also a case where this happened and godaddy.com indicated the domain was suddenly taken, but I went to dotster.com and it said it was available there, and so I purchased it at dotster.com.
