Just read this one. Actually this is quite good news.
“Despite the committee’s approval, 25-11, it remains unclear whether the legislation will reach floor votes in the House and Senate this year. Congress has a relatively few work days left in 2006 because of the November congressional elections.”
1) this was just a committee vote to allow the bill to survive
2) the vote probably won’t happen this year
3) mid-term elections are just around the corner, which could make it tougher for the conservatives to push this through
4) if they don’t vote on it this year, doesn’t the bill have to be reintroduced all over again. Not sure how this works, but hasn’t this been what has doomed past attempts?
5) gives more time for the online gambling industry to get their act together and fight this thing
